In a previous article (AdSense: New Path to Steady Income - Part 1) I introduced you to AdSense, and discussed the two models that are generally applied. For this second of many articles, I will focus on how to generate quality traffic; that is the key to making money using AdSense. Specifically, we are applying the second model in which the primary source of income for your website is from AdSense.

First, let's set our expectations at the outset. This model is a long-term income generator of modest income per site. This is not a get rich quick approach, fraught with risk; rather, it is a clean, simple to implement model that offers steady and reliable long-term income.

The true strengths of this model are as follows: first, it is purely a numbers game. The mores sites you have, the more income you will generate. Second, by having 100+ mini-sites, your revenue stream will have fewer fluctuations than a large single site. And third, there is little maintenance required to keep the sites ranking well on the SERPs.

Seems like the ideal model for earning money online. For many it will be an ideal model; it just requires work to build and setup each mini-site. The alternative is to outsource the work, but that topic is for another article.

Quality Traffic
There are lots of ways to drive traffic to a website, including paid approached like PPC. However, we will be looking at one approach that is the most lucrative: Article Submissions.

The purpose of Article Submissions is not just the traffic that it could generate by readers, but more importantly, the links that it will generate over time as others include your articles on their websites and blogs. For your website to properly rank on SERPs (search engine results page), you will need to build links pointing back to your website. Article Submissions is one very good, fundamental approach for accomplishing this.

It is also important that the articles you submit are high quality, and about a subject of great interest. These articles will be submitted to two or three of the top article directories: EzineArticles, GoArticles, and ArticleBase.

It is not necessary, nor desirable, to submit to 100s of directories. Why? Well, Google will look for a natural growth of articles overtime, and if they see a sudden glut of articles (or a single article) submitted to numerous directories, you may experience a sudden loss of rank in the SERPs (the Google Slap).

A better approach is to build your list of articles over at least a week, and possibly one month for each site, writing two articles daily for the first week, then tapering down over the remainder of the month. Our goal is to create 10 or more links to each page of your AdSense mini-site.

Keyword, keyword, keyword
Real estate has its Location, location, location; with AdSense mini-sites and article submission, it's all about the keywords. Keyword research is both an art and a science, and a topic for another article. What I will touch on are the important guidelines.

Whatever keyword tool you use, and market analysis you perform, when choosing keywords you should look for long-tail keywords (three words or more) that have moderate monthly search volume (using Exact match type) with low competition. For keyword volume, use Google's AdWords Keyword tool; for SEO competition, use Traffic Travis (a free tool).

Specifically, we are looking for the following:

• Keyword monthly volume (Exact match type): 500 - 10,000 (it will be difficult to find low competition keywords above 10,000). Look at the Global Monthly Search Volume, which is an average over 12 months.
• Keyword competition (Traffic Travis): follow the videos on this free version of the tool, and go thru each keyword in the SEO Analysis section. Traffic Travis will analyze the top 20 sites on the SERP and provide a final overall ranking. Select those keywords with three stars or higher.

Select at least 3 keywords to start with initially. Each keyword will represent a specific page on your mini-site. The more keywords (and pages) you add over time, the more traffic you will drive to your site as each keyword ranks on the first page of the SERP.

Pick the keyword with the highest search volume as your main keyword, and buy a domain that includes that keyword. For example, if the keyword is "Graco Jogging Stroller", then select a domain that is available which includes that keyword: "GracoJoggingStrollerReview.com".
